New release Bach Eskelinen includes works by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750), arranged for the guitar and performed by Ismo Eskelinen.
The first versions of the items on this disc were dance suites composed for stringed instruments. There is also a separate movement that is in fact comparable to a little suite in length.
Music by Johann Sebastian Bach has been performed on the guitar at least since the 19th century. A number of guitarists play works for solo violin or cello, and many have transcribed ones originally scored for keyboard. Works by Bach for lute have been in the guitar repertoire since about the middle of last century, thought some were probably intended for another instrument.
